The minds behind the Cimento collection – Parisotto + Formenton Architetti

The Cimento Collection is a product of the work of several designers, united by the idea of designing a monolithic yet light, unique piece of furniture. The collection was initiated by the Italian duo Parisotto + Formenton Architetti, and it was realized by collaborations with Omri Revesz Design, Studio 63, and Defne Koz + Marco Susani.

Aldo Parisotto and Massimo Formenton started their joined work in 1990 after graduating at the University of Architecture in Venice. Their studio has offices in Milan and in Padua and is flourishing in the fields of design, art, and architecture, both nationally and internationally. The Cimento Collection has received the Archiproducts Design Award in 2019.

Materials & Techniques – Cimento material

The Cimento Collection of outdoor and indoor furnishing is realized in Cimento®, a material conducted of 90% mineral aggregates mixed with a cement binder.

Cimento is an exclusive compound registered by the Venetian company SAI Industry and is a revolutionary cement compound applied to the supports of various materials. Cimento manages to obtain a solid and material appearance, typical of exposed cement but is able to surprise for its extreme lightness and ease of installation.

Style & Aesthetics – Brutalistic modular, dynamic and soulful aesthetic

The monolithic design of the Cimento Collection is infused with a color palette that is full of natural tones assembled in different shades and calibrated according to different levels of saturation and intensity.

The colors light blue, green, mustard yellow, and red are inspired by the natural colors of the highly suggestive places and concepts such as the Venetian lagoon, the Adriatic Sea, the spice route, and the Orient.

The writer’s opinion – “The Cimento Collection is an incredible example of how the material can be an inexhaustible source of inspiration”

Its aesthetics take after the ideals of the brutalist architecture from the 20th century, where structures had a monolithic feel, appearing almost as if they were carved from a single, concrete block. The brutalist concept that structural components should be made visible is carried through the entire collection.

It proves that even concrete structures that feel imposing, fortress-like, and visually heavy can be incorporated in essential pieces of furniture that will look dynamic, harmonious, and delicate.
