THE THEME
SMART HOME
How can design help to enhance the experience of living?
SMART HOME is a meta-category that includes the full range of design products.
We are looking for products and ideas that improve the quality of life, think–gadgets that make homes more sustainable or handcrafted objects designed to solve one of life’s many daily difficulties.
It may or may not include tech, or it might be a hybrid solution, as long as it’s designed to make home life…smarter!
It could be an improvement to an already-existing product or a new solution that reduces environmental impact or waste (saves us money, time, energy and loves the environment); it might add a new unexpected function (multi-functional products are great); simplify our actions; or improve our quality of life (relax, entertainment, personal care, etc..).

The DesignAward Award accepts submissions from a wide range of categories:

Since innovative projects do not necessarily fit into existing categories, any other project relating to products for the home, under the theme ‘Smart Home’, is welcome.

Two types of entries
Product design
To be eligible for entry to the DesignWanted Award, products must meet the following requirements:
Products
• Must have been completed after the 1st September 2020
• Can’t have been exhibited at Milan Design Week
Prototypes
• Must be fully functional
• Should be complete with high quality finishes
With the submission you can access the competition to win the following Prizes:
30 shortlisted
• DesignWanted Award Special Mention logo asset allowing shortlisted entries to promote the fact that they have received recognition from the DesignWanted Award
• DesignWanted Award Special Mention certificate
• Featured on the DesignWanted Award website as part of the published shortlist
• Featured on the DesignWanted Magazine as part of the shortlist announcement article
10 Winners
• Free exhibition space within the DesignWanted Award area at DesignTech (Milan), during the Milan Design Week 2023 (17-23, April)
• The DesignWanted Award Winner logo asset allowing winning entries to promote the fact that they have received recognition from the DesignWanted Award
• DesignWanted Award Winner certificate
• n. 1 exclusive interview on DesignWanted magazine

The DesignWanted Award Winner prize is worth over 20,000 euros. Moreover, Winners will get media attention and the opportunity to expand their networks and develop their business as a result of the exposure.
Concept design
To be eligible for entry to the DesignWanted Award, concepts must meet the following requirements:

The Location
In the heart of the Milan’s
innovation design district
Winners will showcase their products at Milan Design Week 2023 within the DesignWanted Exhibition area, located inside the brand new DesignTech (MIND Village, Milan Innovation District).
DesignTech is an innovation hub that empowers companies representative of excellence in the design sector, innovative startups and designers, to build new business ventures and forward looking solutions designed to address the critical challenges represented by the future of cities and the human environment.
