New Works emerged from the shared vision of Nikolaj Meier and Knut Bendik Humlevik, who aspired to create a design house characterized by meticulous attention and purposeful design. Their goal was to establish a space where creativity thrives, offering room for imaginative experimentation—a hub for innovative creations.
In their roles, Nikolaj handles the operational aspects as CEO, while Knut Bendik assumes the role of Creative Director, shaping the distinctive aesthetics and ambiance.
Together with a devoted, compact team, they embarked on the mission to curate a thoughtfully crafted collection of sophisticated, yet approachable lifestyle objects. It is through this pursuit that they sculpt the ever-evolving narrative of New Works.
Projects
KIZU PORTABLE TABLE LAMP - The Kizu Portable Table Lamp exudes a sense of dark romance in its latest iteration, featuring a base crafted from Rosso Levanto marble. This opulent stone, spanning shades from deep burgundy to luscious chocolate, embellished with elegant white veins, evokes the ambiance of Italian palaces. Its dramatic allure is further accentuated as night descends and the lamp illuminates.
ATLAS COFFEE TABLE - Taking its name from the mythical Titan tasked with upholding the heavens on his shoulders, the robust legs of the Atlas table serve as a sturdy foundation for the expansive tabletop. The juxtaposition and interplay between the legs and the tabletop hold a pivotal role in the design, with each element amplifying the other, resulting in the table's unique and striking presence, reminiscent of the brutalist style. In crafting Atlas, John Astbury drew inspiration from various architectural influences throughout history.
