Walking Coat Rack, the multifunctional product that walks with you

Cesare Miozzi is one of the winners of the 4th edition of Ideas for Business with a fun and lighthearted object inspired by the tree. A formal and aesthetic reinterpretation with a focus on ecodesign principles.

The Call #4, part of the Ideas for Business series, focused on the coat rack, a common object that, for some, can be boring, almost annoying, as Cesare Miozzi explains. The Italian designer, with an approach that focuses on observing people and the desire to always create something new, wanted to completely rethink the object. His proposal, the Walking Coat Rack, was selected as one of the three winners.

“Who am I to completely dismiss such an object? No one, so I revisited it in my own way. I thought that the best way to reinvent this object was to add a new function that would allow people to interact directly with it; something playful and useful at the same time”. – the designer explains.

An essential object and historically part of our lives, hooks and supports had already been used in Ancient Rome to hold tunics and togas. Miozzi’s reinterpretation was developed to create a new, more fun and useful version: the Walking Coat Rack, a multifunctional and original product that increases our interaction with it throughout the day.

The idea comes from one of the natural elements we deal with every day and which the designer loves for its simplicity: the tree. With a contemporary and playful aesthetic, a simple tubular structure in the shape of a trunk supports three large branches that emerge from the hollow upper end. Two circular rings, one at the base symbolizing the roots and one at the top serving as a pocket emptier, add a further detail to the product.

The playful element introduced by the designer, which adds a second function, lies in the metal tree’s branches themselves. These can be removed from the tubular base and used as walking sticks, enhancing the product’s versatility throughout the day.

The entire structure, designed by Miozzi in painted aluminum, can be easily dismantled and divided into individual components. The choice of material and assembly technique guarantees a 100% recyclable product in line with current eco-design requirements. Thanks to the different shades, customers can have fun changing the elements according to the color combination that best suits their tastes.

Through the concept of the tree, the designer creates a product that respects the brief of the call and his desire: to create something new with a wow effect, beyond the banal coat rack. The playfulness of the product is reflected both in its multifunctionality and in its simple but original aesthetics.

Thanks to the interaction between man and object, the Walking Coat Rack not only assists us when we enter and leave a space, but also comes to life to accompany and support us wherever we are headed.
