Projects

DUPLICATING LANDSCAPE – This presentation serves as a testament to the boundless imagination and creative prowess of Erco Lai, as he ventures into the realm of material exploration with both natural and artificial mediums. Through the adept utilization of innovative techniques such as geopolymerization, pulverization, and digital fabrication, Lai breathes new life into existing materials, crafting a distinct, artificial landscape that bears his unique signature.
TAFONI – Tafoni, an exquisite 3D sand printed vase, draws its inspiration from the intricate patterns formed by weathering and erosion on rocks. Crafted using cutting-edge 3D sand printing technology by Sandhelden, Tafoni boasts a mesmerizing stacked modeling technique, seamlessly merging natural textures with modern manufacturing processes.
WATERFALL – Drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of traditional Asian wooden shelves, this design by Erco Lai was initially conceived for the display of merchandise objects. However, Lai has embarked on a journey to reimagine this classic piece, infusing it with modern materials and seamlessly integrating it into contemporary living spaces.
MINERALLOOP – A collection of homeware made with discarded materials and objects from The Hague, Netherlands, is being developed. Many products in second-hand shops are not sold and are then sent to the incinerator. To give new life to glass and ceramic products, new coatings made with waste minerals from The Hague are being developed.
NEO STONE AGE – The concrete industry is implicated in numerous environmental concerns. Is it feasible for humans to devise novel manufacturing techniques utilizing industrial waste? Erco Lai's methodology involves crafting Neostones using marble/limestone powder, lime pellets, sand, and slag through a process called 'geopolymerization'.
