Octavio Asensio is a Madrid-based designer and university professor who founded Octavio Asensio Studio in 2014. His work emphasizes aesthetic values, manufacturing processes, and the expressive potential of materials, resulting in designs that blend functionality with visual impact. In each project, Octavio explores an essential design language, focusing on the connection between users and objects, sustainability, and spatial harmony.

His expertise spans furniture, lighting, and consumer product design, and his creative process involves constant experimentation with forms, materials, and production methods. This approach enables him to uncover new research avenues and innovations that inform his designs. Octavio Asensio’s dedication to design has led to collaborations with furniture companies across Italy, Canada, and Spain. He is also deeply engaged in design education, serving as a tutor for final-year students at the IED Madrid campus, specializing in Home Design, and teaching multiple subjects at the University of Design and Technology (UDIT).

His work has been showcased at prestigious design fairs, including SaloneSatellite in Milan, Greenhouse in Stockholm, Feria Hábitat in Valencia, and Maison&Objet in Paris, earning recognition on an international stage.

Projects

Adiu Lamp – ADIU is a portable auxiliary lighting fixture designed to provide soft, diffused illumination. It features a USB-C charging port and offers up to 8 hours of continuous use on a single charge.
Bruta Table – Two metal-profile legs with a water-based paint finish pair seamlessly with a solid, raw wood top to create a bold, contemporary silhouette. Stripped of unnecessary embellishments, this design focuses on the essentials—wood and metal—crafted through a straightforward, primitive manufacturing process.
Chamberi Stool – A bentwood stool with soft, rounded forms, this design harmoniously blends organicity, balance, and functionality. Its graceful lines showcase the inherent beauty of the material and craftsmanship, resulting in an elegant piece that celebrates both the process and the aesthetics of the object.
Dop Lamp – The Dop Lamp is a table lamp crafted from powder-coated metal, featuring two handcrafted frosted white glass lampshades. With its sculptural silhouette, it is designed to complement a workspace or add charm to your favorite cozy corner at home.
Nala Table – The Nala table collection draws inspiration from traditional draped tables with braziers, reimagining their essence with a focus on sustainability. Available in two distinct manufacturing processes, the collection retains a consistent silhouette. Crafted from walnut wood, its design mimics the gentle waves of table skirts, blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
Oscar Stool – With exposed joints and a striking sculptural minimalism, this design is defined by the seamless union of a rectangle and a circle. Crafted from oak wood and assembled without fittings, it is available in natural and black finishes. Its clean lines embody timeless aesthetics and robust functionality.
Paipai Lamp - The PaiPai table lamp blends modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, offering a contemporary take on the classic lantern. Its body is crafted from 3D-printed recycled plastic, while the screens are made from traditional Korean Hanji paper. With its four-sided design, the lamp seamlessly fits into any setting, providing warm and ambient lighting.
Scrap Lamp – The Scrap Lamp emerges from experimenting with leftover metal profiles from industrial and construction manufacturing processes. These profiles, typically supplied in 6- or 12-meter lengths, often leave behind significant amounts of scrap material, which are usually recycled. By repurposing and creatively assembling these metal remnants, a distinctive family of lamps was conceived. Each lamp is illuminated by a 30- or 50-centimeter LED strip, available in various finishes, offering a broad range of design possibilities. The result is a striking collection that embodies a strong contemporary aesthetic and celebrates sustainable design.
Torii Stool – Torii is a minimalist stool featuring gentle curves and two sturdy, thick legs crafted from oak wood.
Weldy Lamps – A family of lamps showcasing striking structural expressionism, crafted from monochromatic sheet metal. This series merges the austerity of simple, elemental forms with the dynamic contrast of vibrant colors. Precision-cut basic geometries are seamlessly welded with concealed joints, while an exposed cable powers a specialized spotlight with a 15-degree beam angle. The light reflects off the upper shade, creating a radiant glow that bathes the surrounding space in illumination.
