Combining functionality with an endearing organic appearance, Bene launches ‘bFRIENDS’ desk accessories – a 3D-printed circular-production accessories collection crafted from recycled post-consumer bioplastic, designed by Pearson Lloyd and manufactured by eco start-up Batch.Works.
Desirable as well as intuitive – “the bFRIENDS name alludes variously to the eco-friendly nature of the objects, warmth of their aesthetic and spirit of collaboration in which they were fabricated” says Bene.
Innovatively comprising 21 eye-catching products including trays, stationery stands, pen pots, holders, clips as well as hooks – this family of versatile minimalistic pieces beautifully transforms one’s desk into a practical space.
Along with custom colors available on demand – bFriends’ palette of soothingly alluring 10 standard hues spans warm, cool and neutral tones carefully chosen to convey an approachable as well tactile appeal that complements the organic curves.
This eclectic one-of-a-kind collection is brilliantly 3D-printed from recycled PLA from Reflow, a cornstarch-derived bioplastic diverted from landfill.
At the end of the objects’ lives, they can be easily returned to Bene to be recycled again – seamlessly creating a complete, closed-loop production cycle. Its process of printing in layers, skillfully leaves a tactile horizontal ridging on the vertical surfaces.
Pearson Lloyd was determined that this should be a key design feature and decided to use a larger nozzle on the printer to emphasize the ridges as each layer was formed. This additionally had the effect of making the products stronger and more durable – effortlessly extending their longevity.
“The 3D printing technology utilized to craft bFRIENDS represents a highly important step towards a genuinely circular and sustainable model of production” Bene adds.
