Christmas trees inspired by tradition: celebrating Italian craftsmanship

Tribù, in partnership with Fernandez Architetti, Progetto CMR, and Studio Chiara Caberlon, has brought to life three unique creations on display at its Milan showroom.

In Milan, a unique event is redefining the concept of the Christmas tree: MilanoDesignXmas. Organized by TOWANT, the initiative brings companies and architecture studios together to reinvent holiday traditions. This year, Tribù took center stage, collaborating with Fernandez Architetti, Progetto CMR, and Studio Chiara Caberlon to create three distinct and imaginative works.

This fresh approach to celebrating Christmas in Milan combines the expertise of brands and architects to creatively reinterpret corporate values. From concepts to materials, colors, and forms, each design reflects the essence of the partnering company. MilanoDesignXmas once again showcases how Design can seamlessly merge tradition with innovation, offering a reimagined holiday experience.

Tribù: the creative brief

Tribù is a Belgian luxury brand specializing in high-end outdoor furniture, known for its refined, minimalist designs. Combining craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless elegance, Tribù creates sophisticated pieces that elevate outdoor living, harmonizing seamlessly with natural surroundings.

The task given to architecture studios was to design a Christmas tree that seamlessly blended the company’s values with the creative vision of the studio. Space and dimensions were carefully selected in collaboration, ensuring each tree complemented the products on display, enhancing both the environment and the distinct approach of each studio.

Studio Chiara Caberlon

Traditional Italian manufacturing patterns serve as the inspiration for the graphics that define our Christmas tree’s structure. Its timeless shape and connection to the tradition of decorating the tree as a family reflect Studio Chiara Caberlon’s commitment to infusing emotion and experience into every project. Crafted by hand, the tree merges scenographic elements, sustainable materials, and cutting-edge printing techniques.” says Caberlon, an Italian architecture and design studio celebrated for its immersive, emotion-centered approach. The studio masterfully blends traditional artistry with innovative practices, creating designs that seamlessly unite functionality, beauty, and cultural storytelling.

Bartolomeo Fernandez Architetti

A Milan-based architecture and design studio recognized for its clean, context-sensitive approach. Talking about their approach to the initiative, they say: “Sustainability, simplicity, and harmony. The aim was to reduce elements to their essentials while preserving the traditional Christmas tree’s powerful symbolism and visual impact. These three guiding principles, embodied in our tree, reflect the design philosophy we bring to every project, adapting it to the specific context and needs of our clients.”

Progetto CMR

The concept of this tree embodies the essence of Christmas: an idea and an emotion rather than a tangible form. Defined by negative space, its iconic silhouette is suggested rather than filled, with delicate decorations, twinkling lights, and unexpected materials floating in perfect balance. This interplay of transparency, light, and shadow evokes the wonder of the season. A unique feature of the design is a number symbolizing the company’s 30 Christmases. Rooted in Progetto CMR’s Inside Out Design philosophy, the project starts with the user and their needs, reversing the traditional design process. This approach transforms the exterior into a visible expression of its inner purpose, merging functionality and beauty to create a harmonious, human-centered design.” says Progetto CMR, an internationally recognized architecture and design studio based in Milan, specializing in integrated and user-centric projects.
