From dunes to lamps, a novel material approach in lighting design
The manufacturing process and materials set this product apart. Using 3D printing technology, the lamp’s body is crafted from sand, allowing for various forms of customization.
Designed by the German design studio VOSDING Industrial Design, the UP-Light embodies innovation in both production techniques and materials, offering users fresh forms and a novel tactile experience.
UP-lights, often utilized outdoors or in technical settings for wall and ceiling illumination, are merged with a sculptural and minimalist design for home use in our product. These lights create a serene atmosphere, reflected in their simple shapes and materials.
The UP-light comes in two sizes: a compact version with a single light source and a larger variant with an extra, slightly angled light source. Its design features a cylindrical base that flares into a conical shade at the top, with the larger model consisting of two such shapes joined at an angle.
The manufacturing process and materials set this product apart. Using 3D printing technology, the lamp’s body is crafted from sand, allowing for customization in various colors, though the prototype is presented in a refined graphite black to enhance its tranquil appearance.
This technique enables intricate internal geometries to be created in a single production step, simplifying assembly with only the addition of electronic components needed post-printing.
To prevent glare, the light source is deeply recessed within the lamp, making the UP-light ideal for any indoor setting, whether placed on a sideboard or table, to softly illuminate walls and ceilings or just the latter.
