Atelier Nuanda, founded in Bologna in 2022 by textile designer and artist Cecilia Rinaldi, is a space where tradition and craftsmanship intertwine with contemporary design. The atelier’s creative approach blends interdisciplinary experimentation with a deep appreciation for artisanal techniques, harmonizing modern aesthetics with a rich heritage of ancient traditions.

One of its standout innovations is an advanced leather processing technique, resulting in lightweight and original creations. This method transforms leather into a unique knitted textile structure that serves as both a decorative and structural element, ideal for fashion accessories, furniture, and decorative pieces.

Focusing on sustainability, the atelier crafts bespoke and one-of-a-kind pieces that merge functionality with design, all while celebrating the art of craftsmanship. In September 2024, Atelier Nuanda received the Starhotels “La Grande Bellezza – The Dream Factory” award for its work Amphora. The following month, its Plĭco folding divider was recognized as the best new product at the sixth edition of ‘Edit Napoli’ during Seminario 2024.

Projects

AMPHORA – This project draws on ancient traditions, reimagining a classic vessel for modern use. Its slim, circular design, with an aluminum handle and coral accents, ensures practicality and elegance. Encased in a handcrafted knitted leather surface by the atelier, it combines functionality with artistry, serving as both a liquid carrier and a decorative piece. Customizable details highlight its bespoke craftsmanship and commitment to sustainable production.
DUNE – For Dune, Atelier Nuanda partnered with Arazzeria Scassa to create a unique tapestry using repurposed wool yarns from Ettore Sottsass-designed works. Crafted on 17th-century looms with the traditional high-heddle technique, it blends shades seamlessly, celebrating timeless craftsmanship and cultural heritage through sustainable artistry.
OBJECT TROUVÈ – This collection reimagines antiques and collectibles, blending Italian craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Enhanced with leather weaves using the atelier’s knitting technique, these objects gain new life, symbolizing a dialogue between past and present. The collection celebrates art, tradition, and craftsmanship in everyday life.
Plĭco – This piece merges design and craftsmanship in a versatile folding divider, combining lightweight aluminum foil with handmade leather weaves for structure and flexibility. Its precise yet fluid geometry adapts seamlessly to diverse spaces, blending past and present. Recognized as the best new product at Edit Napoli Seminario 2024, Plico exemplifies art and functionality in everyday life.
ARROCO – The Giacobazzi project honors Italian Neomoresco style, using pure geometric forms as decorative and compositional elements. The Arrocco collection redefines spaces with textures and frames, offering a fresh aesthetic vision without traditional architectural elements. Featuring four modular patterns—Treccia, Pettine, Mosaico, and Greca—each 54 x 54 cm, the collection suits both expansive areas and corridors. Edges and corners mimic dematerialized carpets, creating seamless spatial transitions. Crafted from fine materials like American walnut and wenge, the collection blends timeless elegance with modern design, highlighting refined textures and versatile geometric patterns.
