All the components in this spiral staircase are embedded in a single module – there is no difference between form, structure as well as aesthetic.
However, behind the simplicity of its single component, the whole brilliantly transforms into a complex system to articulate a special effect.
“Focusing the research on high performance materials for interior design applications, our design process was simply driven by the aim of fabricating things with fewer components which do more” says founders Mirko and Michele Daneluzzo.
Skillfully utilizing composite fibers to manufacture Folio, expresses its characteristics at best – from lightness to resistance and flexibility leading to a new design freedom as well as the possibility of creating sinuous shapes.
The iteration of the monolithic fiber-reinforced composite step, designs a spiral curve in space – the force line of the staircase.
“Folio’s composed of a repeated monolithic step, a module that generates the whole spiral staircase in a seamless gesture” adds the duo.
Its module is flexible, but the mutual interdependence of the components gives rise to redundancy that stabilizes the system.
