These textiles possess distinct properties that differentiate them from conventional materials. The focus is on preserving the natural characteristics of the core ingredients, including color, touch, scent and texture. Therefore, core materials are minimally processed so that the inherent qualities of the raw materials take the spotlight. Examples include “Marmora,” a marble-based coating, and “Creta,” derived from champagne chalk, together with the newest lab-scale production of “Papillio”, a material born from butterfly pea flowers.
More variants and other bio-based materials from the company are sustainably sourced from plants and minerals, offering a range of colors, embossings, and unique aesthetics. Customizable, supple, and easy to work with, they are DIN tested, durable, and optimized for roll-to-roll industrial-scale production.
NUVI’s innovative textiles have a wide range of applications. They are used in various industries, including fashion, interiors and automotive. The company’s first-generation teak leaf material was initially used to create yoga straps, lamps, and fashion accessories. Today, there’s constant exploration on new possible applications for such custom designed materials, such as the “Papilio” biomaterial made from butterfly pea flowers.
Custom made bio-based options are generally designed together with clients. The backing material can be a linen-viscose blend or a cotton canvas, while the standard thickness of the coated fabric is generally about 0.7 mm. The company offers samples of its newest innovations, allowing potential clients to experience their plastic-free textiles firsthand. Co-developments of bespoke materials and roll-to-roll production can also ensure scalability and consistency in quality.
NUVI is at the forefront of the sustainable textile revolution, combining German engineering with EU-sourced natural materials. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has earned it recognition, including the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2023. As NUVI continues to develop next-generation materials, it is poised to make a significant impact on the global textile industry.
