Beyond the blind: technical elegance that defines the space

It reflects light, regulates climate, and furnishes with style: Apo X redefines the role of textiles in contemporary design. Aesthetic, function, and sustainability intertwine in a design gesture signed by Erwan Bouroullec.

In the landscape of responsible design, Apo X stands out as a virtuous example of how textile materials can evolve from mere coverings to ‘living’ tools that shape the quality of spaces. Produced by Kvadrat Shade and designed by Erwan Bouroullec, this new roller blind fabric interprets architecture through its weave.

But the real innovation lies in its conscious sustainability. Apo X is made from 100% Trevira CS, with a metallized backing that reflects 64% of solar energy, reducing internal heat load. This feature makes it an ally in designing energy-efficient environments, improving both visual and thermal comfort. The fabric is also Cradle to Cradle® Bronze certified, confirming Kvadrat’s commitment to responsible solutions throughout the product’s lifecycle.

Completing a profile that combines functionality, high performance, and a responsible approach to sustainability is a strong aesthetic value. The design of Apo X comes in two graphic variants — featuring delicate horizontal or vertical lines — creating rhythm and visual movement that bring order and dynamism to spaces.

The palette of 11 colors, crafted to interact with natural light and adapt harmoniously to various settings, makes the system highly customizable: warm or cool tones allow modulation of the visual effect according to project needs and interior style.

The entire color range integrates perfectly with other fabrics in the Kvadrat Shade collection, offering endless possibilities for combining texture, light, and interior architecture. As Bouroullec emphasizes: “The power of design lies in introducing elements that integrate naturally into the space, quietly contributing to its character.” This vision translates into a fabric that doesn’t demand attention but earns it through the quality of its details and performance — such as natural light control, outward visibility, and acoustic comfort.

Fully embodying this philosophy is the very structure of Apo X, born from Kvadrat Shade’s vision and conceived as an integrated system where technology and refined aesthetics coexist: metallized materials, textile know-how, and hardware designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec come together to offer professionals a versatile solution, supported by an international network and dedicated technical service.

Apo X stands as an invitation to rethink the role of textiles in contemporary design — no longer a passive or purely decorative element, but a tool to shape light, regulate indoor climate, and enhance human wellbeing. It exemplifies how design, technology, and environmental responsibility can converge in a single material and meaningful design gesture.
