Ceramic design’s new era of material expression and innovation
This year’s innovations in the ceramic industry are taking new directions: from traditional illustrations to innovative technologies, the field is changing.

Ceramics have long served as a bridge between traditional craft and contemporary design; yet, today, the leading companies in the field are revealing increasingly innovative practices. The latest collections emerging across Italian manufacturers are symbols of a field energised by artistic collaboration, innovative technologies, and a deeper commitment to sustainable practices.
Reflecting the broader shifts happening in design culture, ceramic companies are also embracing their different voices rather than pursuing uniformity. Whether through designer partnerships bringing fresh aesthetics, traditional thematic narratives, or manufacturing innovations, the field is shifting and challenging what its products can achieve.

With Cersaie, the surface design fair held in Bologna, recently ending on the 26th of September, we are in a very prolific moment of the year for the ceramics field, with many new releases to think through. In this article, we selected the surfaces that inspired us among the releases of this year, some uncovered at Cersaie and some at other events. The seven projects featured here represent some of the different directions the industry is taking, ambitious ideas that will take surfaces to a bolder, more intentional future.
Ceramic design new releases:

Nyra by Atlas Concorde
Atlas Concorde’s new collection, Nyra, explores surfaces within an experience of well-being, through a collaboration with Alberto Apostoli, one of Italy’s leading experts in the field of wellness and hôtellerie. Rather than replicating a natural stone, Nyra presents a graphically unique surface distinguished by subtle mineral inclusions and delicate textures. Nyra also inaugurates Nyra World, a new universe within Atlas Concorde’s offering that will encompass all future stone-effect collections, joining the brand’s established worlds such as Marvel, Boost, 3D Wall, and Log.

Quadrille by Decoratori Bassanesi
Designed by Clara von Zweigbergk, Quadrille is a new collection of ceramic surfaces which continues the brand’s exploration of its archive through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from geometric compositions and chromatic rhythm, the collection balances formal rigour with expressive colour, as an ode to the French quadrille dance. Quadrille symbolises the Decoratori Bassanesi‘s ongoing transformation under its art director, Federica Biasi, with a new brand identity to be completed in 2026.

Aquatic Creatures by Ceramica Bardelli
Aquatic Creatures is a new decorative collection created in collaboration with the designer Riccardo Capuzzo for Ceramica Bardelli, whose imaginative illustrations celebrate the mystery and beauty of the marine world. Inspired by the early 20th-century Milanese decorative styles, the collection features 4 different stories in its designs: Atlantis City, Mongolfiere, Seaweed, and Sea Maioliche. The surrealist illustrations evoke a dreamlike narrative, where aquatic creatures and magical landscapes merge art and nature.

Lume by Marazzi
Luma marks the latest evolution of a distinctive collection in contemporary surfaces, recognised for its glossy surfaces, natural imperfections, and rich glazes. Lume by Marazzi captures the essence of handmade majolica, with expressive colour and material depth. The new 10×10 cm format is available in 8 shades: white, bone, caramel, emerald, green, turquoise, ocean, and blue, enhancing the collection’s vibrancy and variation. The tiles are accompanied by the new 3D Dew structure, a raised decoration inspired by flowers.

Moov Up by Ceramiche Keope
Ceramiche Keope introduces Moov Up, an evolution of its iconic Moov collection, which celebrates ten years of success in 2025. The surfaces reinterpret concrete in a fluid, timeless aesthetic, offering a velvety finish for elegance across residential and contract spaces. The collection debuts ULTRAmatt, a new patented surface that enhances the tactility of microcement, while providing durability and easy maintenance. Available in eight shades and five modular formats, Moov Up allows for limitless composition possibilities.

Segnature by CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia
Segnature is the new collection designed by Cristina Celestino for CEDIT, a poetic exploration of the relationship between material and light. Inspired by the term “segnature”, which describes the external signs revealing a plant’s healing properties, the collection reveals a coded visual language where decoration becomes an intrinsic part of the material. Drawing from natural textures, Segnature presents two expressions: Fibra and Foglio, and is offered in warm, neutral tones. The surfaces are produced through a sustainable manufacturing process at Florim’s B Corp-certified facilities, reflecting the brand’s detailed attention to their products.

Water-based technology by Iris Ceramica Group
Our last feature is a new innovation instead of a collection, as Iris Ceramica Group introduces a groundbreaking water-based structural ink technology, redefining sustainability in the production of ceramic surfaces. Applied across the group’s major brands, this innovation replaces traditional toxic solvents with water-based materials, marking a major step in ecological transition. This technology enhances the texture, colour, and depth of ceramics, heightening the surface’s quality. With this advancement, Iris Ceramica Group proceeds in its mission to re-engineer ceramics with sustainable innovations, setting new benchmarks for the industry’s future.
