Roca revisits Meridian: a timeless classic shaped for contemporary bathrooms

The Spanish brand revisits one of its most recognizable collections with a refined, contemporary vision. Designed by Altherr Désile Park, the project draws from Mediterranean architecture, shaping light, geometry and fluid forms into a balanced bathroom system.

Simplicity, neutral tones and refined finishes define the Meridian collection, one of Roca’s most recognisable bathrooms. With its light, flowing forms and subtle curves, it has long stood as a benchmark of contemporary bathroom design, achieving a rare balance between everyday functionality and understated elegance.

Few collections embody Roca’s identity as clearly as Meridian. First introduced as a synthesis of Mediterranean sensibility and modern design, it has shaped the visual language of countless bathrooms over time. Today, the brand marks an important new chapter by entrusting the collection’s evolution to Barcelona-based studio Altherr Désile Park (ADP), led by Jeanette Altherr.

Rather than redefining Meridian’s identity, the project builds upon its original essence. Mediterranean light, architectural clarity and the cultural heritage of Barcelona — a city that has always influenced Roca’s aesthetic vision — remain the foundation of the collection, now interpreted through a more contemporary lens.

Altherr Désile Park’s sensitivity to context proved crucial when approaching such a strong design legacy. Meridian’s original DNA lies in the arch, a powerful symbol of Mediterranean architecture. ADP translated this element into a refined contemporary language, drawing inspiration from the austere, vernacular architectures found across Spanish, Portuguese and Greek landscapes.

“Born from the interplay between geometry and the natural rhythm of time, Meridian captures the smooth transition between moments, evoking harmony between light and shadow,” the studio explains. For the designers, timelessness is not about remaining unchanged, but about evolving while preserving meaning.

More than a stylistic update, the new Meridian represents a strategic relaunch. The collection embraces a minimalist, modernist vision defined by essential geometries and architectural clarity, strengthening its presence in the market while projecting it confidently into the future.

At the heart of the redesigned system lies its structural concept: a refined steel frame that wraps around and supports the ceramic elements. This architectural structure transforms bathroom furniture into light, clearly defined volumes and becomes the unifying thread across the entire range. Available in both floor-standing and wall-hung versions, the system adapts naturally to a variety of spatial contexts.

Elegant metal drawers and boxes complete the composition. Designed to rest on open shelves, they provide practical and versatile storage while reinforcing the collection’s architectural rhythm. The interplay between open and closed elements enhances both visual lightness and functional clarity.

The colour palette follows the same design philosophy, favouring neutral and material tones. White and black act as graphic accents, while a refined natural beige wood introduces warmth and depth, recalling the luminous textures of Mediterranean architecture.

Crafted from high-quality materials chosen for durability and reduced environmental impact, Meridian fosters a sense of calm and wellbeing. Its flowing curves, balanced proportions and refined finishes create spaces that feel both contemporary and enduring — designed to evolve with everyday life.

One of Meridian’s defining qualities is its adaptability. The collection supports multiple configurations, ensuring a precise fit across residential and contract environments alike. From private bathrooms to exclusive hotel suites, Meridian integrates effortlessly, transforming spaces into serene and coherent environments.

Basins and furniture play a central role in shaping this experience. Made from innovative Fineceramic®, the basins achieve exceptional lightness while maintaining remarkable strength. Paired with wooden furniture elements, they create a warm dialogue between ceramic and natural textures, redefining the balance between delicacy and durability.

Meridian toilets and bidets are conceived as compact architectural volumes in ceramic. Available in wall-hung and back-to-wall configurations, they integrate seamlessly into a wide range of layouts, contributing to a clean and cohesive visual language. The traditional close-coupled toilet has been reinterpreted as a streamlined contemporary object, with the cistern harmoniously integrated into a single form to enhance spatial continuity.

Performance is further enhanced by Roca’s Rimless® Vortex technology. By eliminating the traditional rim, the system removes hard-to-reach areas where residue can accumulate, improving hygiene and optimizing water flow. Reduced noise emissions and limited aerosol dispersion ensure a quieter, more hygienic bathroom experience.

Mirrors complete the system as both functional and atmospheric elements. The Luna Ambient mirror features an arched silhouette that echoes the collection’s softly curved geometries, reinforcing visual continuity while adding warmth and depth to the space.

Meridian’s evolution also reflects Roca’s broader commitment to sustainable growth. Founded in Barcelona in 1917, the family-owned company prioritizes the wellbeing of people and the planet through initiatives focused on decarbonisation, eco-design and circularity. Products are developed with a lifecycle approach, from material selection to optimized transport methods, ensuring durability, quality and reduced environmental impact.

These values closely align with Altherr Désile Park’s design philosophy. The Barcelona-based studio specialises in product and colour design, creative direction and ephemeral architecture, approaching projects with an open and sensitive methodology.

We approach projects from an engaged and complex perspective, bringing together culture and technology to convey naturalness, balance and humanity,” the studio states. In Meridian, this vision takes shape through a refined system that celebrates light, proportion and materiality — reaffirming the collection’s status as a contemporary icon, evolved yet unmistakably itself.
