Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide turns a recovery slide into a tech wearable

Nike and Hyperice rethink the post-performance routine with an ‘everyday slide’ that, through targeted, integrated technology, opens up new perspectives on the role of footwear, turning it into a wearable for body care and well-being.

A slide usually has one simple purpose: to offer comfort in everyday moments. Not Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide. Developed by Nike in collaboration with Hyperice, the recovery slide takes this simple function, combining comfort and ease of use, in a different direction by integrating recovery technology into its structure.

The shoe combines a full-length Air Zoom sole with targeted heat and vibration across the top of the foot, bringing technology normally associated with dedicated recovery devices directly into a piece of footwear. The innovation, however, is not the use of heat or vibration themselves – both have been used in sports recovery for years – but the way they are integrated into a product designed to be worn without interrupting the daily routine, simply at home and at ease. The slide thus becomes an active tool for the well-being of athletes and sports enthusiasts: a wearable that continues to support the body after performance.

When footwear becomes a wearable

The entire system is built around the Hyperslide Pod, a magnetic and removable electronic module housed inside the adjustable strap. It offers three heat levels, reaching up to 47°C, and three vibration levels, with 15-minute recovery cycles. Settings can be controlled directly from the device or through the Hyperice app, making the system not only functional but also simple and intuitive.

Separating the module from the footwear is a deliberate design choice, making Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide modular according to different needs and moments of use. The electronics can be removed from the slide, separating the technological component from the rest of the product. This approach also opens up a broader design consideration: distinguishing components with different functions and lifecycles could, over time, make products easier to update, replace or repair. The Pod therefore acts as an interface between the physical product and its technological component, without visually turning the slide into an electronic (or bulky) device.

The technology behind Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide stays almost invisible

“In the field, athletes give everything they have and need a recovery approach that’s just as intense,” says Tobie Hatfield, Senior Director of Athlete Innovation at Nike. “With Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide, we wanted to offer a solution that immediately activates recovery, helping athletes relax, recharge and prepare to take their performance to the next level.”

This intention is reflected in the design of Air Zoom Hyperslide, where the technology remains discreet, almost hidden within the slide, while from the outside the slide still looks like an everyday slipper. By embedding heat, vibration and electronic components into the footwear itself, the product also changes the recovery experience: there is no need to set aside a specific moment for it. You simply put it on.

Recovery becomes an everyday gesture that can fit into almost anyone’s routine. The approach is not limited to professional athletes, but can also suit amateur athletes, enthusiasts or anyone coming home after a long, tiring day at work or a journey. This is where footwear meets wellness, turning a function traditionally associated with performance – and, as a result, the product itself – into a more everyday form of body care.

Nike and Hyperice: two areas of expertise converge

The collaboration between Nike and Hyperice makes this innovation possible. Founded in 2011, Hyperice has built its identity around technologies dedicated to movement, warm-up, and performance, with products used by both athletes and non-athletes worldwide. Its mission is to help people move and live better, bringing recovery technology into everyday life. Nike (we all know the brand… ) brings its expertise in footwear, materials, and athlete-focused comfort.

It is from these two ‘worlds’ that Air Zoom Hyperslide is born, bringing them together around the same goal: integrating recovery into the everyday experience. “It’s the combination that makes the difference,” says Virgil van Dijk, Nike and Hyperice athlete. “The heat and vibration generated by Hyperice technology help the feet recover as quickly as possible, while Nike Air Zoom cushioning provides incredible comfort.” The slide reflects Nike’s broader vision of supporting athletes throughout their journey: from training and competition to recovery and rest, which are no less important to performance.

Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide goes beyond performance

To be clear, Air Zoom Hyperslide does not invent the recovery slide, nor the use of heat and vibration for physical recovery. Devices using these technologies already exist. Its real point of interest lies in the way it brings them together in a single product, taking a function normally associated with dedicated devices and placing it inside footwear designed for everyday use.

“Our partnership with Nike has always been driven by a shared commitment to innovate in service of the athlete,” says Anthony Katz, founder of Hyperice. “With Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide, we’re making high-level recovery more accessible than ever. We’re combining Nike’s iconic footwear experience with Hyperice technology to help enable more effective recovery, one step at a time.” Air Zoom Hyperslide shows how footwear can evolve by integrating functions that, until now, belonged to different and separate products. It is a shift that raises a broader question about the future of footwear: how technological can an object become while still being something we simply wear?

Last but not least: Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide will be available from September 29 on nike.com, hyperice.com and at select retail locations. Stay tuned!
