Pantone x Project One by Trek: Cloudy with a chance of etherealism
Desire-drenched and fantasy-filled, Pantone’s Dualities Palette transforms Trek’s Project One bike into a dreamy landscape in motion.
So much of contemporary life revolves around steadying a juggling routine, ever in the making, both within and without our grasp. To stop–or by any means surrender–would throw off the rhythm, so we keep going at full speed no matter what. Thankfully, the more mood-infused objects we surround ourselves with, the smoother the ride becomes.
The Pantone x Trek limited edition Project One Bike is a riveting example of an object with a multifaceted personality. The custom bike breathtakingly embodies Pantone’s recently launched Dualities Palette, a stunning array of 175 colors curated into two distinct palettes for the very first time in Pantone’s history.
Trek’s Project One initiative allows the creation of one’s dream bike. All cutting-edge components can be painted in a seemingly endless color gamut and ultra-premium schemes made by some of the most renowned designers in the world. In this way, one’s two-wheeler becomes emotionally driven, an open-minded companion always within reach.
Available across Pantone’s Fashion, Home + Interiors (FHI) products, the Dualities Palette is divided into two collections: New Age Pastels and Shadows. The compilation ranges from classic elegance to contemporary playfulness. While the Shadows one includes subtle nuances between black and white through an array of cool gray tones, the New Age Pastels is made up of softer and airier hues that project peacefulness, pristineness, and order. Trek’s Project One design team has come up with an ethereal, cloud-like paint scheme that seamlessly and enticingly combines airy pops of color from the New Age Pastels with smokey midnight hues from the Shadows collection.
The Pantone x Trek limited edition Project One Bike features four of Pantone’s new Dualities colors—Peach Tree, Polaris Star, English Hyacinth, and Rocky Rim—plastered on a blank canvas of carbon fiber. Both the contrast and cohesion enchantingly evoke depth and dimension reminiscent of the ever-changing skyline on a long, memorable ride. Each hand-sprayed cloud burst and ambient fade is crafted individually to ensure no two bikes are identical.
But then there’s the seatpost that creates a powerful juxtaposition with its ultra-deep, stormy shades in comparison with the bike frame’s harmonious pastels and shades of joyous moodiness. For the seatpost, Trek’s Project One design team applied an alcohol-based process over uncured paint to give the scheme a shadowy, water-like pattern that subtly bridges the gap between the deepest blacks and the purest whites. The project marks another first, this time for Trek, as this innovative technique has never been applied to a Trek Project One bike before.
As an emblematic collaboration we didn’t know we needed, The Pantone x Trek limited edition Project One Bike conveys an unmatched, detail-oriented level of artistry. Although centered around dualism, this frozen snapshot of an eclectic skyline inspires in a multitude of ways as a dose of radical optimism is suddenly accessible at every interval.
