Luca Nichetto’s return to Murano signals a bold future for Venetian glassmaking

Barovier&Toso, the historic Venetian glassmaker known for over seven centuries of artistry and innovation, has announced the appointment of Nichetto as its new Art Director.

This milestone signals a transformative chapter for the brand, intertwining its prestigious legacy with a fresh, globally-minded vision for the future. The appointment of Luca Nichetto — along with the recent naming of Andrea Signoroni as the company’s first CEO — reflects Barovier&Toso’s broader strategic renewal.

Our aim is to consolidate our legacy while evolving in step with the present,” explained Rinaldo Invernizzi, President of Barovier&Toso. “Luca Nichetto immediately stood out as the ideal interpreter of this mission. His profound knowledge of Murano culture, paired with a global vision and design sensibility, offers tremendous value.

The return of a Murano native

Born in Murano and now based in Stockholm, Luca Nichetto is celebrated for his multidisciplinary design approach and international success. His return to Venice in this pivotal role is as much personal as it is professional.

Murano glass was my first school — a living material capable of telling ancient stories and opening new horizons,” shared Nichetto. “Taking on the art direction of Barovier&Toso is deeply emotional. It feels like coming home, bringing with me the legacy of a community I belong to.

Nichetto envisions a creative direction that honors tradition while embracing innovation. His studio will steer the development of a new visual identity for Barovier&Toso, reimagining everything from products to brand spaces and experiences. His methodology integrates formal research, artisan mastery, and openness to diverse cultural expressions — a cosmopolitan spirit rooted in the brand’s Venetian essence.

A contemporary reimagining of identity

The first manifestations of this new artistic direction have already appeared. At Euroluce 2025 and in the windows of Barovier&Toso’s Venice boutique, visitors have caught glimpses of a more immersive and contemporary brand narrative. These early interventions hint at a bolder, more expressive era for the brand.

According to CEO Andrea Signoroni, the new Art Director’s appointment is more than symbolic: “In a highly competitive global landscape, it’s essential to stand out through coherence, identity, and vision. Entrusting the art direction to Nichetto Studio is a decisive move to reinforce our position in the high-end design segment.

Looking ahead

Alongside collections designed directly by Nichetto, the new direction will feature collaborations with international designers chosen for their cultural sensitivity and alignment with Barovier&Toso’s values. The first collections under this revitalized vision are expected in early 2026.

In the designer’s words, “With passion, humility, and an unstoppable desire to innovate, I am thrilled to write a new chapter of excellence together with Barovier&Toso.”

As one of Murano’s most iconic names embraces a new phase of cultural and creative growth, the appointment of Luca Nichetto stands as a testament to the enduring relevance of craftsmanship when intertwined with visionary design.
