A new modular inform sofa defined by its unique diamond-shaped backrest panels
In 2009, Massproductions launched their first-ever product, the “Tio Chair,” marking the beginning of a journey where the collaboration between Magnus and Chris has grown into one of Scandinavia’s most triumphant and easily recognizable furniture brands.
Warm, welcoming, informal, and luxurious – these are the attributes embodied by “Patch,” a novel modular sofa system conceived by Chris Martin for Massproductions, the furniture company he co-founded alongside Magnus Elebäck almost 15 years ago.
Patch is defined by its unique diamond-shaped backrest panels and incorporates a construction method that minimizes the use of polyurethane foam, incorporating steel springs typically used in the bedding industry and innovative corner designs.
“By replacing large volumes of foam with pocket springs we were able to not only save resources but also faci- litate a comfort superior to regular foams and webbing straps. The springs give a buoyant experience with no dead zones”, explains the designer.
Drawing inspiration from an upturned duffle bag, moc toe boots, and a string of sausages, these elements all contribute to the distinctive design language of the sofa (see more modular sofas here), featuring its eye-catching diamond-shaped “patches.”
The rounded shapes of the top panels soften the substantial volumes of the seating and backrest modules, giving Patch its distinct personality.
“Above all a sofa system should be something you look forward to sitting in, a place of refuge and comfort to enjoy with family, friends and strangers. I believe we have captured that feeling with Patch in its various and limitless configurations” clarifies Chris Martin.
Massproductions introduced their inaugural product, the “Tio Chair,” in 2009, and since then, the partnership between Magnus and Chris has evolved into one of Scandinavia’s most successful and recognizable furniture brands.
