Pioneering eco-friendly polycarbonate solutions in Design and Architecture

In a demanding industrial environment, Polypiu carves out its niche in pursuit of cutting-edge and innovative technological solutions.

Established in 2006, Polypiù is a family business dedicated to innovation in the construction industry for over four decades. The company engages closely with designers and installers of skylights and industrial coverings, dedicating comprehensive resources towards practical, effective solutions.

They utilize polycarbonate, an adaptable material perfect for various uses. Polycarbonate is a sophisticated polymer, consisting of numerous molecular groups linked in a chain through repeated covalent bonds. Specifically, polycarbonate is produced from carbonic acid and a chemical group from Bisphenol. There are compact and multiwall variants of polycarbonates. Within interior design, polycarbonate facilitates the partitioning of spaces without resorting to construction. Additionally, it allows for the customization of panels through coloring and/or decorating.

For the Enhance exhibit‘s display structure, PolyPiù played a crucial role as a technical partner. This collaboration enabled the realization of a design that is both striking and sustainable, aligning with the core values of our showcase at Milan Design Week. For this reason, we sought insights from the company to better understand their contributions and philosophy.

What is Polypiù? What is its story?

Polypiù:

“Polypiù is a solid, young, and dynamic company, constantly searching for advanced and technologically innovative solutions for the production of polycarbonate multiwall and compact sheets and systems for industrial, commercial, and residential construction. We understand that each project is unique, and approaches every challenge with creativity and ingenuity. Whether it’s designing custom solutions or adapting existing products, Polypiù is committed to surpassing its clients’ expectations and delivering excellence in every aspect of its work. What are polycarbonate honeycomb systems, and what are their applications?

Polypiù:

“Polycarbonate honeycomb systems are innovative modular structures designed for various applications including industrial glazing and windows. These systems are designed to be cost-effective with high light transmission, good thermal insulation properties, and an attractive aesthetic finish without the need for connection profiles. They are complemented by framing profiles and finishing accessories to meet diverse construction needs.

These structures are used in diverse construction contexts, including industrial windows and glazing, curtain walls, roofs, and modular systems for both commercial and civil projects. They’re also suitable for creating inner partition walls and continuous window setups, blending durability with aesthetic appeal.”

Regarding the SDGs and your partnership with Enhance for the upcoming Milan Design Week, how do you approach sustainability? How have you implemented this in your products?

Polypiù:

“We are committed to sustainability, operating as a fully recycling entity and ensuring that its range of products, including multiwall and compact polycarbonate sheets, adhere to the rigorous standards set by the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 certification. This certification verifies that our operations, from manufacturing to sales, meet the high-quality standards mandated by law, with a steadfast focus on customer needs. We believe in the importance of transparency, particularly in communicating our warranty terms clearly to customers at the time of purchase, underscoring the reliability of our polycarbonate products.

Our approach to sustainability involves not only meeting environmental standards but also optimizing our production processes to reduce our ecological impact, all while maintaining our commitment to delivering exceptional products and ensuring customer satisfaction through clear and upfront warranty conditions. This dedication to quality, sustainability, and transparency forms the core of our operations, reflecting our pledge to excellence and environmental responsibility.”

If you had to choose an area where you are not yet present, in which to showcase and enhance your material, which would it be and why?

Polypiù:

“Polypiù has yet to explore the medical sector, an area ripe with potential for employing polycarbonate materials in innovative ways, such as in protective gear. Venturing into healthcare could significantly impact safety and innovation across global medical facilities. The medical industry’s stringent standards and regulations would offer a solid foundation for assuring the quality and dependability of Polypiù’s materials, enhancing its stature as a reliable supplier in this essential field.”
