It comprises two obround sheets of metal which are sandwiched together with enough space left in between them to house a dimmable LED light. The upper half of each piece fans outwards and forms a wing-like shape whilst an acrylic lining conceals the inner workings of the lamp to create a streamlined silhouette.
Cortés created the lamp for García Requejo, which received a LIT Design Award in the Pendant Lighting category for its design. She is currently experimenting with other materials such as wood and acrylic in place of metal and looking at how to incorporate smart technology so the light can be controlled from a mobile device.

The FLY lamp isn’t overly complicated and that’s what works—a very simple construction makes for a strikingly minimal design that feels very modern. “We combine tradition and technological innovation in elegant designs,” says García Requejo and FLY is exactly that.
It’s a contemporary take on pendant lighting that would look great as a single lamp at home or arranged as part of a collection suspended at different heights in a commercial environment.
