The Water Magician 2.0 turns tap water into a natural sanitiser

A nifty little gadget that turns tap water into disinfectant? It sounds impossible but Taiwanese design studio Friendly Life has created a device that does exactly that.
Friendly Life describes it as a portable aqueous ozone generator and an all-in-one cleaning product, that can be used to sanitise hands and pets, clean fruits and meat, remove stains and mop the floor too.
The name seems complicated but the technology behind it is actually quite simple. The ozone generator works by applying an electrical charge to the air that passes through. This splits apart some normal oxygen atoms into unstable single atoms, which bond with other O2 molecules to form O3.
Science aside, all you really need to know is the extra oxygen atoms latch onto and destroy surrounding contaminants and pollutants. Upon complete oxidation, the extra oxygen atoms disintegrate and the ozone decomposes into ordinary oxygen again, leaving nothing harmful behind according to Friendly Life.

The real win here is that the Water Magician 2.0 creates a cleaning product consisting of only water and oxygen, which is 100% chemical-free, and harmless when used to clean food, your hands, pets, or children.
Taking a closer look at the technical side of things, it utilizes what’s known as a low-voltage electrolysis method to produce ozone water, which the studio has specified by calculating the size of the ozone vents. Friendly Life also carefully measured the distance between the positive and negative charges, which enabled them to increase the output of electrolyzed water volume by 5 times and the electrolysis efficiency by 20.
As well as optimising the performance of the device, Friendly Life wanted to design something that was easy to incorporate into daily life from an aesthetic point of view. The Water Magician 2.0 is the size of a bar of soap and weighs only 125g, meaning it’s portable and can be used on the go—all you need is access to running water.
